Monogorilby Renewable Energy Project (MREP) formally announced and new website launched

New wind farm and battery energy storage project announced for the Western Downs and Burnett regions

Today, the Monogorilby Renewable Energy Project (MREP) – a proposed wind farm development with between 80 to 100 wind turbine locations (c. 600MW), and a battery energy storage system (BESS) – is being publicly announced (website link: Monogorilby Renewable Energy Project). MREP is a strategically located development which is located in an area of low residential density, close to the high-demand centres of south-east Queensland, and will provide extensive construction and operation related jobs and contract opportunities for the local and regional area.

MREP is being developed in partnership between LP Renewable Projects (LPRP) and Intera Renewables (Intera). LPRP is a hands-on developer known for its approach to stakeholder engagement, having recently secured the first community benefits agreement for a grid-connected wind farm in Queensland. Intera is an owner-operator of renewable energy projects with a portfolio of over 1GW including Ross River Solar Farm near Townsville.

LPRP Director, Llion Parry, said that Monogorilby was selected due to its strong wind resource, proximity to existing high-voltage transmission and following supportive engagement with a number of local landowners and stakeholders.

“Monogorilby and the broader district provide a really strong set of fundamentals for hosting a renewable energy project: strong wind resource, low residential density and proximity to the transmission network.” Mr Parry said.

“There is no project without supportive landholders and I’d like to thank everyone we have engaged with us to date to bring the project to this stage, and for their time and effort.”

Intera Renewables’ Head of Growth and Development, Ed Mounsey, said that

“The development is in the early stages and the critical next steps are to continue engaging with the community, commence development of the Social Impact Assessment, and to develop a Community Benefits Agreement that delivers what the community wants and needs over the medium and long term.”

Alongside the wind farm, a BESS is also proposed and will provide additional energy security and stability for the Burnett and Western Downs regions and the broader Queensland electricity network.

MREP is targeting submission of key development applications through the course of 2027/28, and to commence construction in 2030/31. The project will operate for a period of at least 30 years once operational.
